Sunset in Oia & Traditional Villages

Description

Mesa Gonia village, known as the Ghost Village of the island, is our first destination. The village was abandoned because of the destruction the 1956 earthquake caused. Now many people have moved back but the name has still remained. We will wonder around the village to see the traditional architecture and visit the Byzantine church of PanagiaEpiskopi. After Mesa Gonia we will visit the village of Pyrgos, with its Cycladic architecture, Byzantine churches and the Venetian Castle. Situated in one of the highest points of the island, Pyrgos offers an amazing view of the north-west part of Santorini. As the day passes, we will continue our tour to Oia village, the most famous place of the world for its remarkable sunset. Oia sunset is an all-time inspiration for artists. The colors when the sun sets into the sea showcase the beauty of the landscape and the architecture, composing a unique atmosphere. After the sunset we’ll return to back to the village you started the excursion.
