Athens tour and the New Acropolis Museum

Highlights

The New Acropolis Museum:

A state-of-the-art building designed by Swiss-born architect Bernard Tschumi, with an area of 226,000 square feet the new building feels open and full of light, a striking and highly functional work of architecture. The New Acropolis Museum hosts nearly all of the portable objects removed from the Acropolis since 1834. The museum's artefacts are primarily religious in nature, and they provide a fascinating visual history of Greek religion.

Athens Monument Tour:

The tour passes by some of the most iconic places Athens has to offer. You will see the Temple of Zeus, began in the 6th century BC, but not completed until the 2nd century AD some 638 years later. This was the largest temple in all of Greece during Roman Periods. You will see The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, manned by guards dressed in traditional costume known as Evzones. The Parliament, which was completed in 1843, is the symbol of the Hellenic Democracy since 1934 and one of the greatest landmarks of the city. The Panathinaikon Stadium, home of the first modern Olympic games of 1896 .The entire stadium was built of pure white marble. You will also see three buildings representing 19th century architecture blended with classical influence, the Library – the Academy – the University. Last but not least, you will pass through two historic city squares, Omonia Square which is the commercial centre of Modern Athens and Syntagma Square which is the business and cultural centre of contemporary Athens.

Your Athens’ city sightseeing ends at a leading café at the foot of the Acropolis, where you can view all the majestic monuments of the amazing site while enjoying your refreshment.
