The Acropolis:

A world renowned symbol of classical architecture, that crowns the city of Athens. The Acropolis is home to some of the most important archaeological sites and stands guard on top of the hill reminding the glorious past of the city. This magnificent site is a cornerstone of western art and civilization.

The Parthenon:

Built in honour of Goddess Athena, the temple is an architectural marvel of Doric order and the main temple of the Acropolis.

Temple of Erechthion:

Next to Parthnenon, this temple’s columns are sculptured like young maidens who support the roof of the porch.

Propylaea (the gates):

A six column Doric façade built totally of white marble covering 50m across the whole western face of the site. These are the gates through which the Panathinea processions used to enter.

Temple of Athena Niki:

Also known as the ‘Wingless Victory’, the temple has a four column Ionic structure.

Theatre of Herodes Atticus:

This theatre is still one of the greatest highlights of cultural events in the Eastern Mediterranean. Due to its remarkable acoustics, world well known performances are held here each summer.

Time to browse and do a little shopping at the stores located at the base of the Acropolis will be allotted.

Leaving the Acropolis, the tour passes by some of the most iconic places Athens has to offer. You will see The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, manned by guards dressed in traditional costume known as Evzones. The Parliament, which was completed in 1843, is the symbol of the Hellenic Democracy since 1934 and one of the greatest landmarks of the city. The Panathinaikon Stadium, home of the first modern Olympic games of 1896 .The entire stadium was built of pure white marble. You will also see three buildings representing 19th century architecture blended with classical influence, the Library – the Academy – the University. Last but not least, you will pass through two historic city squares, Omonia Square which is the commercial centre of Modern Athens and Syntagma Square which is the business and cultural centre of contemporary Athens.
