Ios

Ios

The island of Ios, in Greece, is a part of the Cycladic Islands.

It is famous for its intense nightlife which can be experienced in the touristy and lively beach resort of Mylopotas and in the harbor named Ormos. But aside the fun, Ios has many beautiful sights to offer to visitors and various quiet and peaceful places. Its coastline is adorned by kilometers of fine soft sand and crystalline emerald waters which are a real temptation.

According to Herodotus, the island is Homer’s mother homeland and the place where the famous Greek epic poet was buried. A ruin that can be seen at the village of Plakoto is said to be the tomb of Homer.

Ios is the ideal destination for all kinds of “party animals” and seekers of great fun and entertainment.

As Mykonos or Paros, Ios is one of the busiest and must touristy island of the Cyclades. It offers a wide range of bars and night clubs as well as cheap drinks and fun.

It is the Mecca for all the young people and those who are feeling young, a club-island in a state of eternal party.

But Ios also has a calmer and more peaceful side: for those who want to relax and see the island, Ios has many beautiful beaches among which a lot are still calm and unexploited, while there are some nudist beaches. Ios also has an amazing capital, an interesting rocky landscape and some archaeological sites.

Ios and its beauty has inspired many artists to come to the island and pass a few months there. The famous Austrian painter Helmut Kand is a characteristic example.

Because of these two opposite faces, Ios is considered as one of the best islands to visit in the Cyclades as well as one of the most beautiful.
