Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus

This one of a kind ancient theatre was designed by Polykleitos the Younger and is so well-preserved that productions are still held throughout the Peloponnesian summer. The late Maria Callas even once performed here.

Propylaia

The massive gateway to the Asklepeion still stands at the northern entrance. You’ll find sections of the Sacred Way beneath your feet and a classical stadium with benches still intact and starting line still visible! 

After the tour to the Ancient theatre of Epidaurus, we’ll return to Nafplion where you’ll have free time to deeply explore this beautiful port before we return to the ship. Some of Nafplion ports highlights include:

  • Two Turkish mosques.
  • The Archaeological Museum of Nafplion, which houses artifacts found in the area from the Prehistoric and Mycenaean eras.
  • Municipal Gallery, an arm of the Athens National Gallery.
  • The Church of Agios Spyridonas.
  • Church of Agios Georgios, home to a number of legendary murals, including a copy of Da Vinci’s “The Secret Dinner.”
